Renowned as the home of the Great Barrier Reef, Far North Queensland is a diverse region, not only boasting spectacular coastline and lush rainforest but an array of natural and man-made location gems.
The city of Cairns sits right at the doorstep of the reef. With its international airport, it’s the gateway to Far North Queensland and the major urban hub. The northern beaches area is ripe with beaches, resorts, coastal towns, marinas and rainforest, including World Heritage site Daintree National Park and the Atherton Tableland.
Travelling south to the Cassowary Coast, the township of Innisfail is the jewel of the region, with streets lined with art deco, heritage buildings. In complete contrast, astounding nearby Paronella Park (featuring heavily in the feature film Celeste starring Radha Mitchell – trailer below) evokes the ancient and otherworldly.
Inland into the Savannah Gulf area is where the arid outback meets oasis – expansive grasslands, remote country towns, winding tree-lined rivers, rockpools, and breathtaking geological formations.
Screen Queensland’s Production Attraction Incentive is available for projects with a minimum QPE (Queensland Production Expenditure) of AUD $3.5 million. Additionally, Screen Queensland facilitates a network of Film Friendly councils that support visiting productions by cutting red tape and streamlining approval processes for filming, as well as connecting productions with on-the-ground businesses and service providers.
