It’s no secret that Sydney is one of Australia’s main production hubs, but it’s not every week that two big blockbusters that were filmed in Sydney are released at the same time.
Fox Studios Australia is the largest end-to-end film and television production facility in the Southern Hemisphere and is located in the heart of Sydney.
Recently, Fox Studios Australia played host to Pacific Rim: Uprising and Peter Rabbit which are currently showing to audiences worldwide.
Pacific Rim Uprising commenced production at the studio in March 2016 and over a 14-month-period the production utilised many of the sound stages, as well as the production offices and art and construction workshops. The film shot in Australia for 3 ½ months, largely on location in Sydney and at the Fox Studios lot.
The film required a studio on the Pacific Rim where they could build the headquarters for the Pan Pacific Defence Corp. The iconic locations and landmarks, great crews and tax incentives are what lured them to Sydney and Fox Studios.
Peter Rabbit commenced production in the second half of 2016 at Fox Studios and shot till March 2017. They used the sound stages, production offices and art and costume department workshops. In addition to studio facilities, Peter Rabbit also utilised a nearby supplementary 30 hectare / 75 acre backlot which enabled the production to construct quaint sets as featured in Beatrix Potter’s classic children’s book set in the English countryside.
Fox Lighting supplied in-studio and on-location lighting equipment packages on Peter Rabbit and Pacific Rim Uprising including Tungsten, HMI and Kino Flo lighting, as well as a variety of stands, dimmers, cable, distribution boards and textiles.
