Sanctum
James Cameron was in Sydney in January to launch the $30 million film Sanctum he Executive Produced. An adventure film about a cave diving expedition that goes wrong, it stars Richard Roxburgh and Rhys Wakefield.
The Australian director Alister Grierson used the same 3D cameras as Avatar to shoot Sanctum in the water tank at Village Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast and in outback caves in South Australia.
Sanctum’s Producer, Andrew Wight searched worldwide for the right facilities for the film. “When James Cameron and I were looking for a studio to produce Sanctum, we looked at every facility around the world that could facilitate working with water. When I discovered the extensive capability of the Village Roadshow Studios Gold Coast facility in Australia, it became the only choice. The studio is world class and the large outdoor tank and unique water distribution system at the studio made producing Sanctum a reality,” says Wight.
