Jackie Weaver who is receiving all the buzz for her performance in Animal Kingdom was one of eight Australians – the most since 2003 -nominated for the 83rd Academy Awards.

Nicole Kidman is up for best actress for her perfoamnce in Rabbit Hole and Geoffrey Rush is nominated for best supporting actor as the speech therapist Lionel Logue in The King’s Speech.

Other Australian nominees include Kirk Baxter for editing The Social Network, the illustrator Shaun Tan for directing the animated short film The Lost Thing, Ben Snow for visual effects on Iron Man 2 and Dave Elsey for make-up on The Wolfman.
