BOB MCMULLAN TO TAKE ON ROLE AS AUSFILM CHAIR

15 May 2012 – London. Ausfilm today announced the appointment of the Hon Bob McMullan to the newly created role of independent Chairperson of the Ausfilm Board from 1 July 2012. The announcement was made as part of Ausfilm Week in London.*

In making the announcement, current Chairman Alaric McAusland said “We are pleased and privileged that Bob has agreed to take on this new role and very much looking forward to working with him. Bob brings an excellent understanding of the international community and marketplace and an ongoing passion for the Arts. His depth of experience and knowledge will guide Ausfilm as it continues to engage with the international film and television community to market all that Australia has to offer.”

Mr McMullan will be based in London where he is a Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development representing Australia, Korea, New Zealand and Egypt.

Speaking at Ausfilm Week London, Bob McMullan said “I have always valued the combined economic and cultural importance of the film and television industry and am keen to contribute to the work of Ausfilm and the Australian industry. Alaric will be a hard act to follow but I look forward to the challenge.”

Mr McMullan was born and educated in Perth, WA and has had a long and distinguished career in public life. He entered federal politics as Senator for the ACT in 1988 and moved to the Lower House as Member for Canberra in 1996 and Member for Fraser from 1998. During his Parliamentary career Bob held a number of senior positions including Minister for the Arts and Administrative Services, and Minister for Trade in the Keating government; he served as Manager of Opposition Business and Shadow Treasurer and completed his parliamentary career as Parliamentary Secretary for International Development Assistance. 

Mr McMullan is also an Adjunct Professor for the Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University. He will take up the role of Ausfilm Chair from 1 July 2012.

*Ausfilm Week London is taking place from 13 to 15 May 2012 and is designed to develop co-production opportunities between Australian and UK producers for both feature film and high-end television.
