Queensland is a unique production location, renowned for its great weather, diverse locations, world-class studios, award winning creative skills and post-production capabilities.
Screen Queensland provides location assistance including, location breakdowns, research, customised electronic presentations (from a database comprising of 50,000 images), shoot-to-order presentations and surveys for qualifying greenlit productions.
Screen Queensland also assists productions in accessing local crew and facilities and administers financial incentives and rebates including the State Payroll Tax Rebate (productions with a minimum Queensland production expenditure of AU $3.5 million). Additional rebates and incentives may be available to productions meeting minimum Queensland expenditure criteria, pending budget availability.
Queensland’s Gold Coast is home to a large internationally credited crew base and a wide range of production support services, including post-production and visual effects facilities and equipment rental. Also located on the Gold Coast and housing many of these film industry facilities is the Village Roadshow Studios, which boasts the largest purpose built outdoor film water tank in the Southern Hemisphere.
With an area twice the size of Texas and seven times the size of the United Kingdom, Queensland provides an accessible blend of deserted islands, vast and rugged deserts, quaint outback towns, prehistoric tropical rainforests, white sandy beaches, stylish modern cities and unusual geographical formations, which can double
for a range of locations.
Recent productions filmed in Queensland include The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader, Fool’s Gold, The Ruins, Nim’s Island, Daybreakers, The Pacific, Australia, The Starter Wife and Monarch Cove.
